The American Legion offers a number of scholarships and other resources to assist young people in their pursuit of higher education. Each year, the Legion facilitates the awarding of millions of dollars in scholarships to high school students. There are opportunities for everyone, including kin of wartime veterans and participants in Legion programs. The Legion also publishes a valuable resource in “Need a Lift?” – a comprehensive guide to seeking and obtaining scholarships. 

 

Beaufort Post 9 Supports the Following Scholarship Programs

Beaufort Post 9 Scholarship Program Graduating seniors, accepted in a state accredited college or technical school are eligible*.  Scholarship awards are based on Beaufort Post 9 Executive Committee’s determination each year and the number of applicants receiving the scholarship.  A total of $5,000 has been approved for seniors graduating in 2019. Deadline April 15, 2019.

American Legion Legacy Scholarship up to $20,000 awarded to children of military members who died on active duty or received greater than 50% disability while on active duty, on or after September 11, 2001*. Deadline April 20, 2019.

Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program Direct descendants of war time veterans who attend the current session of American Legion Boys State or Auxiliary Girls State programs are eligible*.  Up to $20,000 multiple Scholarship Awards are made each year. Deadline due on arrival at State.

American Legion Baseball Scholarship Graduated high school seniors who are electronically registered in the American Legion National Baseball Headquarters team roster are eligible*.  Scholarships of $500 to $5000 are awarded each year.  Deadline July 15, 2019.

American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year Registered active members of a Boy Scout Troop chartered to an American Legion Post are eligible*.  Scholarships are awarded on the national level for 3 runner up awards of $2500 and The American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year Award of $10,000.  Deadline Mar. 1, 2019.
